Twilight Emperor

This striking beast is the Twilight Emperor. 
  "It is said that he glides endlessly throughout space, searching for pools of darkness and desolation.  When he finds such areas, he laughs, challenging the blackness to consume him, but he is always faster. He dances at dizzying speeds around and through the dark, ripping it apart, until all that remains are permanent reflections of his shimmering scales, forever trapped in the spirals where he danced.  In fact, some say that you can still see the areas of his many conquests in the night sky if it is clear enough to see the stars". 

The Twilight Emperor is one of the largest sculptures I have ever done.  He stands 11 1/2" tall and is 12" long from the tip of his nose to his furthest wingtip.  He also weighs in at a hefty 7.5 lbs!  His main body is made from regular Sculpey polymer clay and his wings are crafted from Magic Sculpt so they are less fragile, as are all his long, delicate toes.  His spines and teeth are made from a collection of shell beads and fossilized shark's teeth and his eyes are hand-painted glass orbs.  His head is also adorned with prismatic glass beads to match his many iridescent colors.  I fashioned his perch from 1 large lava rock piece that came from a broken fountain and I filled in all the lower parts of it with separate, smaller pieces of lava rock that I jigsawed together to fit the area.  Lastly, all the beautiful shimmery colors on both the dragon and the perch were accomplished with a combination of metallic paints and several different colors of metallizing powder I blew across the surface while the paint was still wet.
